Jewelry
Policy
Every year the
question about players and their jewelry comes up.
Here is the policy on jewelry:
- Jewelry is essentially any
item not on the list of Compulsory Equipment, FIFA Law 4, Item 2:
- Shirt, Shorts, Socks,
Shinguards, Shoes
- No jewelry
may be worn during play or
practice.
- Hair bands, if worn,
must be elastic.
- Other articles that
may be considered by
the referee to endanger either the player or other players must also be
removed.
- Religious and medical
bracelets and necklaces are not considered "jewelry" but must be taped
to the body to the satisfaction of the referee.
- Failure to obey the
referee will automatically disqualify the player from participation
until the referee determines the hazard has been resolved.
- Taping the ear-rings
is NOT an
acceptable method of attempting to circumvent this policy.
- There are acceptable
soft-stud temporary inserts available, for example from Amazon,* that can
be worn during the game.
- * And certainly other places
as well...
- Just be sure to insert so the
flat part of the insert is on the back of the earlobe:
the plastic stud
is facing outward.
- If the portion of the plastic stud
extends beyond the little slip-on plug, cut it short
with,
for example, a nail clipper.
- With the exception of
the soft-stud temporary inserts (above),
any items - including medical and/or religious items - which utilize a
"stud" to fasten them to the
body are prohibited.
- If the offending
item cannot be removed then the player is not allowed to participate in
the game.
- REPEAT:
IF THE OFFENDING ITEM CANNOT BE REMOVED THEN THE PLAYER IS NOT ALLOWED
TO PARTICPATE IN THE GAME .
- This is an
absolute and unchallengeable rule. Do not request any "special waiver"
because it will not be granted.
- Do not berate
the referee for insisting on compliance with this rule.
